BSC Faculty/Staff Active
Throughout Summer

Bluefield State College faculty and staff were active on a variety of scholarly fronts throughout the summer.

A scholarly submission by Dr. Steve Bourne and Professor of Business and Director of the Center for Labor-Management Initiatives, and John Snead, Associate Professor of Business, will be featured in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Business Ethics, an international business educators' monthly publication. Their collaboratively-written paper, "Environmental Determinants of Organizational Ethical Climate: A Community Perspective," focuses on how a community's values and norms influence employees' ethical perceptions.

Dr. Patricia Mulvey, Professor of History, participated in a four-week summer study-travel tour of Brazil. The event was organized by the West Virginia Consortium for Faculty and Course Development in International Studies (FACDIS).

Sheila Parks, Associate Professor of Nursing, provided five weeks' volunteer service as a Nurse Practitioner on an Indian reservation in South Dakota. This marks the third consecutive summer Parks served as a volunteer in the program, sponsored by Arrow, Inc., a nonprofit organization established to assist in providing health care for Native Americans.

James Worsham, BSC history instructor, was a featured speaker at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum symposium in Waco, TX. His topic focused upon the life of Captain Samuel H. Walker, "Texas Ranger, Gentleman Warrior."

D. Bruce Sneidman, Assistant Professor of Secretarial Science, attended the "FOSE" integrated technology exposition in Washington, D.C. The expo was a showcase for technology-tailored programs for federal government operations, with an emphasis on products, services, solutions, and education.

Bernadette M. Dragich, Associate Professor of Nursing, spoke at the sixth annual Associate Degree Nursing Faculty Development Conference in August. The two-day conference, at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, was centered on the theme, "Fundamentals: The Foundation for the Future."

Thomas Ilse, Financial Aid Director, and Terry Fox, Financial Aid Counselor, participated in the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators conference.

Dr. Shekhar Pradhan, Associate Professor and Department Head of Electrical Engineering Technology, was a featured presenter at the American Society for Engineering Education Spring Conference at the University of Detroit/Mercy.
