Bluefield State College will celebrate "Homecoming '98," October 3-9, utilizing the student-selected theme, "Wild, Wild West!" This year's Homecoming week begins on a Saturday and concludes on the following Friday.
Preston Watkins, Sr., a former BSC football star and WVIAC football player of the year, returns to his alma mater October 3 to deliver the Founder's Day address at a noon luncheon, opening Homecoming week. He will also serve as Grand Marshall in the 6 p.m. Homecoming Parade that evening. Phi Alpha Chi sorority sponsors both the parade and the Post-Parade Party at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Oct. 4, a Pig Roast and Talent Show will take place at City Park, Shelter #1. Other activities are scheduled as follows:
Monday, Oct. 5: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.-Old Time Photos-Student Union, All Day-Spirit Day! (Dress Western), 7 p.m.-Comedian Owen Smith, who recently appeared on HBO's Def Comedy Jam, Basic Science Auditorium;
Tuesday, Oct. 6: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.-Voting (Lemonade at voting booths), Noon-The West Virginia Golden Voices (Gospel Music concert)-Student Union, 5 p.m.-7 p.m.-Voting; 7 p.m.-Broken Reins (Country Music)-Basic Science Auditorium;
Wednesday, Oct. 7: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.-Voting (Lemonade at voting booths), 10 a.m.-2 p.m.-Campus Carnival, with M-4 Motion Simulator, game attractions, dunking booth, organizational tables, etc., 5 p.m.-7 p.m.-Voting;
Thursday, Oct. 8: 7 p.m.-Mike Super (Magician)-Basic Science Auditorium;
Friday, Oct. 9: 7:30 p.m.-Coronation-Basic Science Auditorium, 9 p.m.-1 a.m.-Homecoming Dance-Bluefield Elks Country Club, with DJ "Mr. Bill"
