Changes in the educational requirements to sit for the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) examination have necessitated adjustments in the curriculum required of students preparing for such an examination. New rules require that a student must have completed 150 hours of college credit to sit for the CPA exam. This change requires students to take additional hours' study beyond the Bachelor's degree.
The Marshall University Graduate College and Lewis College of Business/GSM have entered into a wrap-around "3 + 2" program that combines the undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Accountancy from the school with the MBA degree from GSM. This arrangement satisfies the 150 hour requirement to sit for the CPA exam, in addition to the requirements for both a baccalaureate degree in accountancy and an MBA degree from GSM.
The combined Bachelors and MBA degree programs included in the agreement are not limited to students who wish to sit for the CPA exam. The program is designed so it may be utilized by students other than those who have undergraduate accounting majors.
