A 10-member team of students from Bluefield State College has earned the right to represent a multi-state district in next month's International Society of Measurement and Controls (ISA) International Student Competition in Houston, TX. Bluefield State is the defending champion of the event.
The BSC student team, whose coach/advisor is Roy Pruett, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Technology at BSC, will be competing against other ISA student teams from the United States, Latin America, Canada, and Europe.
The International Student Competition consists of two sections--an ISA Bowl and ISA Practical. The "bowl" involves tournament-type competition during which students compete, responding to questions on basic and advanced instrumentation and control theory and practice.
The ISA Practical portion of the competition includes a "hands-on" exercise related to the field of instrumentation and control. Professor Pruett noted that, at the 1997 ISA International Student Competition in Anaheim, CA, "Several of our team members received job offers during the conference, and all were able to make contacts that will assist them in making future career plans."
Pruett said one of the advantages of competing in this event is the opportunity students are afforded to meet and share ideas with students from other parts of the United States and other countries.
BSC students participating in the international competition include Rodney Price, Chris Lafferty, Mickey Udy, Terry Wells, Eric Collier, James Pruett, Kevin Gordon, Michael Brown, Gary Sergent, and Garry Stutts.
