Two BSC Nursing Faculty Speak
at Radford University Conference

Two Bluefield State College nursing faculty members spoke at the recent 12th annual "Research Day," sponsored by Sigma Theta Tau, International (nursing honorary) Epsilon Psi Chapter of Radford University, and the Virginia Nurses Association, District 2.

Bernadette Dragich, Associate Professor of Nursing, will present "Caring Narratives," and Misty Damewood, Instructor of Nursing, will present "Clinical Validation of Fatigue in Individuals with Congestive Heart Failure."

Dragich's presentation concentrated on the "invisible and often undervalued" benefits of caring. "Technology is certainly important, but we must use caring to guide technology," she noted. Her presentation detailed ways that caring has a positive impact on both the patient and the nurse.

Damewood's session examined factors that influence the condition of fatigue. "Fatigue is a somewhat abstract concept," she noted. "By collecting and analyzing data, we have been able to gain a better understanding of fatigue, and have been able to discuss with patients and their families the circumstances that can create the condition of fatigue."

Barbee Bancroft, a consultant with CPP Associates in Chicago, IL was the keynote speaker. She has taught more than 900 seminars on topics related to Pathophysiology, Physical Assessment, and Pharmacology. More than 200 nursing professionals and students attended the conference.
