Free Income Tax Preparation
Offered by BSC Student Accounting Society

The Student Accounting Society of Bluefield State College is offering free income tax preparation assistance to low income and elderly individuals, through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program co-sponsored with the Internal Revenue Service.

"All individuals participating in tax return preparation have undergone training to prepare to do tax returns," noted William Goodman, BSC Associate Professor of Accounting and VITA site coordinator. "Taxpayers seeking assistance should bring this year's tax package, usually received through the mail, wage and earning statements (Forms W-2) received from employers, interest statements from banks (Forms 1099), a copy of last year's federal and state tax return, if available, last years tax return, if available, and any other relevant information concerning income and expenses."

Free tax assistance will be offered on the following schedule in Room 11 8, Mahood Hall on the BSC campus: Mondays & Wednesdays--2:30-5 p.m.; Tuesdays--4- 6 p.m.; Saturdays--3-6 p.m..

In 1998, BSC volunteers contributed more than 500 hours' service, assisting area residents in completing nearly 300 income tax returns.
