NYSP Selects BSC to
Receive First-year
Program Recognition Award

The National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) Committee has recognized Bluefield State College for its performance as a first-year participant in the NYSP project this summer

Through a grant awarded to the College, BSC offered a variety of sports-related and life skills instruction, along with recreational activities for nearly 300 area youth, age 10-16. The NYSP program also includes team accomplishment, personal health, nutritional goals, and substance abuse prevention in its activity log.

"In review of the program evaluation materials and federal reports, the committee acknowledged J.D. Carpenter, project administrator, and Tanya East, activity director for their outstanding leadership," noted Edward Thiebe, NYSP National Director. "We will present a special certificate to your project representative(s) at the February, 2000 national meeting in Washington, DC."

"NYSP strives to nurture the dreams and aspirations of youth," Thiebe continued. "We are pleased that your institution has maximized its resources and excellently fostered the positive development for 295 youth in your community this past summer."

The NYSP program is underwritten for two years to BSC as a result of a grant submitted by Annette Osborne, Director of Institutional Advancement, and Joan Buchanan, Program Assistant II.
