He served WVACRAO as president-elect during the 1998-99 year. Patsel has been active in the organization since coming to BSC as Registrar in 1990, serving and chaining numerous committees including the Archives Committee, the Technology Committee, and the Special Projects committee.
His primary emphasis as president will involve: a) representing WVACRAO at the national level, particularly at the annual ACRAO meeting in New Orleans next spring; b) providing a sense of focus and mission to the organization in developing conference topics for the October, 2000 VVVACRAO meeting, and; c) taking the initiative in creating professional development opportunities, through the association, for its membership.
"The challenges that face us include maximizing enrollment and utilizing limited resources effectively," he noted. "WVACRAO members share ideas and provide insight into how individual colleges represented in the organization are succeeding in tapping new student markets. Additionally, we regularly consider how we may most efficiently use existing resources to maintain pace with evolving national trends in the use of technology." He noted that several WVACRAO members regularly attend the national convention, then bring back to the state organization useful information presented at the national meeting.
Patsel and John Cardwell, Interim Vice President/Student Affairs & Director of Enrollment Management Services at BSC, will also collaborate in the presentation "Admissions and Records Cooperating in High School Registration of New Students" during the December, 6-7 meeting of the Virginia Association of Collegiate Registrars & Admissions Officers, in Hot Springs, VA.
