Bluefield State College aquaculture professor Julie Delabbio recently delivered an invited lecture, "Commercial Aquaculture Development at Jomo Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.
Prof. Delabbio also toured the University's aquaculture facilities and met with government officials and with faculty involved in fisheries development.
Aquaculture, the farming of plants and animals in a water environment, is an emerging industry in the United States and throughout the world.
"The future of aquaculture is bright and expansion is expected to continue," noted Delabbio, who is at the point of BSC's new associate degree aquaculture program.
"The demand for aquaculture products will continue to remain high because the wild fish harvest has reached its limit, and aquaculture is the only means of producing the supply of products needed by the consumer," she explained.
