A 29-year educator/administrator whose commitment and innovation in the classroom merited a national education award credited Bluefield State College with providing a foundation upon which he built his career. Erskine Davis, a Logan county teacher and administrator, was the featured speaker at BSC's Founder's Day Dinner.
"Bluefield State College believes education is based on faith and human potential," Davis noted. "Graduates of this institution should be grateful for those who went before them, who taught us, and established for us a standard of achievement. I came to Bluefield State College to learn, to determine what I could do, accept challenges, and achieve goals."
The 1995 winner of the Milken Family Foundation's National Educator Award, Davis told his audience of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the institution, "The future calls, but it smiles only for those who work hard and accept its challenges."
Davis is a two-time recipient of the Logan County Education Association's "President's Award," and last year was inducted into the Magnolia High School Excellence Hall of Fame.
