Dr. Louis Barsi, Dean of Student Services, has accepted an invitation to serve as a regional representative of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators' (NASPA) Health Education and Leadership Program (HELP) Advisory Committee, seeking to reverse the increase of HIV-infected college students in America.
Dr. Sudhakar Jamkhandi, Director of the Center for Instructional Understanding, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Regional Contracting Assistance Center (RCAC). The RCAC delivers services in the area of economic development to companies seeking to do business with federal, state, or local governments or agencies of those units of government.
Dr. Garrett Olmsted, Associate Professor of Sociology, has developed a system to explain the calendar used by the early Celts in France. His explanation has been adopted by the French National Research Center (CNRS) Division of Prehistory.
Annette Osborne, Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement and Planning, has been installed as the 1997 Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce. A longtime Chamber volunteer, Osborne was officially installed for a one-year term.
Sheila Parks, '90, Associate Professor of Nursing, participated in a recent AIDS conference that focused on behavioral science theories and research in HIV prevention planning for youth. She is a Community Planning Group (CPG) volunteer in District I of West Virginia.
E. Ralph Patsel, Registrar, has been selected for inclusion in the forthcoming edition of Marquis Who's Who in the South and Southwest. Patsel, who serves on numerous college committees as well as state and national committees on electronic data interchange (EDI), will be among the individuals whose biographies will be profiled for the silver anniversary edition of the publication.
Dr. Betty Rader, Provost/Community and Technical College, has been selected as a recipient of the West Virginia Community College Association (WVCCA) 1996 "Outstanding Contributor Award."
Kay Thompson, Assistant Professor of Nursing, has written an article, "From Hospital to Home: A Teaching/Learning Strategy for Associate Degree Nurses," which is scheduled for publication in a future issue of Nurse Educator.
James Worsham, Coordinator of Student Publications, has been notified that selections of his research on The History of the First Interchangeable Parts Manufacture: The Manufacture of Early U.S. Firearms is being published in three issues of the newsletter of the Berman Museum in Anniston, Alabama.
