Bluefield Moose Lodge Sets Up

Bluefield State College Scholarship

The Loyal Order of the Moose, Bluefield Lodge 1079, has established a scholarship program at Bluefield State College that will create opportunities through higher education for more than a dozen BSC students each semester.

The lodge's gift of $10,000 per semester creates scholarship opportunities for both traditional and nontraditional students, including several specific academic programs and athletic scholarship.

In announcing the gift, lodge administrator Jeff Deal said, "Our lodge has maintained a strong commitment to community service since its establishment 78 years ago. This scholarship program at BSC enables us to provide opportunities through higher education for deserving students and, at the same time, help our community."

BSC president Dr. Robert Moore said, "This expression of support from the Bluefield Moose Lodge is really outstanding. You are opening doors for a lot of students."

Annette Osborne, BSC's Director of Institutional Advancement and Planning said of the program, "It's very apparent that much thought went into the design of this scholarship program. We are most appreciative."

The scholarship recipients for the spring semester are as follows. Affiliation recipients -- Jody R. Neal, Amber N. Wagner, John H. McGinnis, IV, and Kathy J. Kennedy; Non-traditional recipients -- Crystal L. Green and Franklin J. Patton, Jr; Nursing recipient -- Shawn D. Lusk; Radiologic Technology recipient -- Stephanie D.
