COLLECTIONS

The following collections have been processed and added to the Archives Collection:

William B. Robertson Papers, 1946-2006

Marvin W. Rogers Papers, 1940-1996 One cubic foot including photographs.  Collection includes materials relating to his employment at Bluefield State and photographs taken after his retirement. Material consists of newspaper clippings, correspondence, Bluefield State publications, event programs, and photographs.   Bulk dates are 1984-1994.  Topics include Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.  Alpha Zeta Lambda Chapter., Bluefield State College Alumni Association, and Bluefield State College--Administration.

Allen A. Jonas Papers, 1963-1993.   2 linear feet.  The Allen Jonas collection contains   press releases, correspondence, exhibit lists and programs, administrative memos, grant applications and reports, and committee minutes.  It is organized chronologically, with some subject folders.  Bulk dates are 1970-1991.  Topics include Art—West Virginia, West Virginia—Artists, and Bluefield State College—Faculty.  Allen Jonas’s oral history interview transcript is available in the Archives Collection. 

Bessie Levanna Watkins Collection.  1926-1933.  4 items.  Includes graduation announcement (1933), 1926 class ring and 1933 valedictorian medal.  Gift of Carlotta Ridgeway; delivered by Mildred Washington. 

Carolyn Mossette Wright Collection.  1937.  3 items.  Scrapbook, one issue of the Bluefieldian, one yearbook.  Delivered by Paul Rutherford. 

George Featherstone Papers, 1977-1994.  3.5 linear feet.  The records consist of instructor’s notes, course syllabi, and correspondence relating to Mr. Featherstone’s teaching responsibilities in the Department of Mining Engineering Technology at Bluefield State College.  In addition, there are minutes, agendas, and correspondence relating to his service on ABET's Technology Accreditation Commission and correspondence relating to his participation in the International Symposium on Modern Mining Technology held at Shandong Institute of Mining and Technology, People’s Republic of China.  Bulk dates are 1977-1989.  Topics include Coal Mining and Bluefield State College—Faculty.

Irma Cabiness Interview.  Oral history transcript.  4 sessions.  110 total pages.  Topics include Bluefield State—Students, West Virginia—Mines and Mining, African American History—West Virginia, Switchback (W.V.), Teachers—New York-- New York City.

Library Administrative Records 1965-1995.  2 linear feet.  Files were collected by Library Directors Joe Natoli, Michael Pate, and Thomas Brown and include minutes, memos, statistics, blueprints, reports, and grant applications. Bulk dates 1976-1987. Topics include Library--Administrative procedures, Library—Building, Library—Collections, and Library—Personnel.

Ruth Payne Brown Papers, 1981-2002.   0.5 linear feet.  Materials include minutes, agendas, reports, clippings, and correspondence from Ruth Brown’s two terms as President of the Bluefield State College National Alumni Association.  Topics include reunions, Founder’s Day, membership, and activities.
