Upcoming Meetings

Classified Staff Council meetings are  scheduled for the second Thursday of each month. For additional information contact Carol Baldwin at extension 4227.

All classified employees are invited to attend this meeting.

The Flower Fund

The purpose of the Flower Fund is to provide a consoling gesture to BSC classified employees and their families during times of illness or death.    We hope that the knowledge of our concern will somewhat lessen their pain.

Flowers are sent when any classified employee is in the hospital or in the event of a death of the employee's spouse, child or parent.  If a classified employee dies, flowers will be sent to his or her family,  Cards will be sent in the event of the death of other family members.

The fund is supported solely by donations from the classified employees and voluntary contributions from faculty and administration.  If the need arises the Staff Council may hold fund-raisers to supplement the fund.

The Flower Fund contact person is Anita Barilla at extension 4117 or Carol Baldwin at extension 4227.

Classified Employee Email Discussion Group

The Staff Council of Bluefield State has created an email discussion list dedicated to the interests of classified employees. The purpose of his list is to provide a forum for classified employees to discuss concerns, news, and the agendas of upcoming Council meetings.

According to its Constitution, the Council is charged to "Represent staff interests in working hours; hiring, promotion and salary policies, representation to college and professional organizations; staff development; and other issues of concern, which may arise involving the classified staff individually or collectively."

In order to represent staff interests we must know what they are. Help us to become more effective in our purpose by joining this discussion group. Once you join you will NOT be vulnerable to new unsolicited email or off-topic spam, as the list is restricted to registered members, who must be members of the classified staff of Bluefield State college.

You may subscribe in one of three ways:

1. Send a blank email message to: BSCCS-subscribe@yahoogroups.com .
2. Email  cbaldwin@bluefieldstate.edu and request to be added to the list.
3. Respond to an invitation to join that some of you received.

We hope that you will find this list useful. Thank you for your support of the Classified Senate.

West Virginia Advisory Council of Classified Employees

ACCE  was created to provide classified employees a means of conveying their concerns and recommendations on  employee-employer relations to the  West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. Every West Virginia higher education public institution has an ACCE representative.   Their site provides information about their meetings, projects, and governance structure.

West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission

The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission is responsible for developing, establishing, and overseeing the implementation of a public policy agenda for higher education. It is charged with oversight of higher education institutions to ensure they are accomplishing their missions and implementing the provisions set by state statute.  Their site includes the text of policies and procedures that higher education institutions must follow and documents that describe the state of higher education in West Virginia.

West Virginia Education and State Employees Grievance Board

The Grievance Board's mission is to resolve employment problems between employees and county boards of education, higher education institutions and state agencies.  Texts of decisions rendered are accessible here for any grievance that has reached the level of a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge.
