September 15, 2007 - Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk 2007
If you would like to make a donation, walk with the team or form your own team, please contact Betty Blevins at 327-4218 or bblevins@bluefieldstate.edu. The walk will be Saturday, September 15, 2007 with registration at 10:00 a.m. The walk starts at 11 a.m. at Center Court-Mercer Mall. Prizes and T-shirts will be awarded.
Sigma Theta Tau International
Sigma Theta Tau International is an organization which provides opportunities and responsibilities to make definite contributions to the schools of nursing, to the profession, and to the health of the public worldwide. Its purposes are to:
Recognize superior achievement
Recognize the development of leadership qualities
Foster high professional standards
Encourage creative work
Strengthen the commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession
What are the requirements for membership?
Membership Eligibility. There are 2 categories of members.
- Undergraduate Nursing Students: complete 1/2 of the nursing curriculum, cumulative GPA 3.0 - 4.0 and rank in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class in scholarship. Truly exceptional students may be inducted if overall GPA falls below 3.0 but only if GPA in the nursing major is 3.0 or higher. (Baccalaureate Students Only)
- Community Nursing Leader: minimum of a baccalaureate degree who have demonstrated marked achievement in nursing education, practice, research, administration or publication. The majority have degrees in nursing but consideration is given to RN with degrees in other fields if achievement in nursing is exceptional.

The Bluefield State College BSN Honor Society was awarded a charter for Sigma Theta Tau International at the Biannual Convention in November 2003. The Induction Ceremony for the newly designated Tau Delta Chapter was held at the Harris-Jefferson Student Center on April 6, 2004. Ninety-four members were inducted into Sigma Theta Tau. Five members transferred memberships from other chapters, and eight members co-joined. Eldean Pierce, MSN served as the chartering representative.
Fall induction of new members, dinner, and an educational program will be held on Tuesday, October 24th 2006 in the Tierney Conference Center. Please plan to attend!!
