Faculty Positions

Bluefield State College invites applications to join our Faculty beginning in the Fall of 2008. 

Assistant/Associate Professor of of Marketing

PhD., or equivalent, required.  Courses may include Principles of Marketing, Retailing, Integrated Marketing Communications, Sales, Marketing Research and Marketing Management.  School of Business is ACBSP accredited.


Assistant/Associate Professor of History/Social Studies

Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with social studies emphasis or a PH.D or Ed.D. in History is required.  Applicants must have concentrations in American European History as well as familiarity with NCATE and NCSS standards.  Experience in public school teaching is highly desirable.    Position requires ability to teach a middle grades social studies methods course, United States History, World Civilizations, and upper level History courses, and to lead in the attainment of NCSS accreditation for the School of Education’s middle grades teacher endorsement in social studies.  Responsibilities include a minimum 12 credit teaching load (may include web based or interactive video instruction), academic advising, as well as participation in school and College governance.

                            
Assistant/Associate Professor of Education

Qualifications: An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a field of education and public school certification is required (past certification and applicable public school experience can substitute for the latter). Master’s degree in a content area is preferred.  The applicant must have a minimum of three years of full-time classroom teaching experience at the elementary-middle school/junior high, or high school level in a U.S. school (preferably public) and one year of higher education teaching experience. It is strongly preferred that candidates have direct NCATE accreditation experience and SPA folio preparation experience, and/or WV State Department of Education program approval process experience.
Responsibilities: Bluefield State College’s School of Education is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position in Education beginning August 2008. Primarily responsible for undergraduate elementary, middle school/junior high methods courses in Mathematics or Social Studies education and other general undergraduate courses (Foundations, Educational Psychology, Diversity, etc.) to include use of instructional technology and supervision of student teaching. A successful candidate must: 1) demonstrate the ability to effectively teach both elementary and secondary methods courses, 2) demonstrate a commitment to diversity, 3) possess potential to carry out a program of scholarship, and 4) possess a potential for service to the College and profession, especially in relation to accreditation. Prior experience in supervising student teaching and other practical experiences will be looked upon favorably. In addition, preference will be given to those candidates with experience in integrating technology and multimedia in the classroom, and with experience teaching mathematics or social studies at the elementary and middle school/junior high or secondary levels.  Preference will also be given to those candidates with direct NCATE accreditation experience, SPA folio preparation, and WV State Department of Education program approval processes.
Salary:  Negotiable, commensurate with experience. 

Assistant/Associate Professor of Architectural Engineering Technology

M.S. degree in Architectural Engineering or closely related field required.  Ph.D. preferred.  Three years of relevant work experience required with previous teaching experience preferred.  This person will serve as academic advisor to students, supervise laboratory experiences, develop and teach web courses, teach undergraduate courses, present workshops for continuing education for industry and work as a team member on program development.

Anticipated Fall Semester Adjunct Faculty Vacancies:  Biology, Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Econ, Education, English, History, Management, Marketing, Math, Music, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Speech.  Possible openings in online, daytime and evening course sections – Bluefield, Beckley, Lewisburg, Welch sites.   Master’s degree in field required; teaching experience desired.  Fall semester begins Aug. 18.   Application review will begin immediately.

Part-time Nursing Faculty

Bluefield State College invites applications for two part time faculty positions in the NLNAC accredited Associate Degree nursing program on the Beckley campus.  These 9 month positions are for the 2008-2009 Academic year only.  Both classroom and clinical teaching responsibilities will be required.  Current RN licensure and BSN required, MSN preferred.  Degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution.  Current clinical experience in medical-surgical/pediatric care is recommended.  Teaching experience is preferred.  Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications.  Applicants are to submit a letter of application, resume, college transcripts and contact information for three references to: Human Resources, Bluefield State College, 219 Rock Street, Bluefield, WV 24701. Bookstore Clerk

Bluefield State College invites applications for a Bookstore Clerk for the Lewisburg, West Virginia campus.  This is a part-time regular position without benefits, 16 hours per week @ $10.21/hour.  It requires at least 2 years of retail experience.  Must be able to operate a register, lift and unpack boxes and have computer experience in Excel and Word.  This position will be responsible for assisting students, receiving, pricing and stocking, and inventory.  Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work independently and follow directions is a must.  Days and Evening hours and may need to work more than 16 hours per week during busy periods.  Applicants are to submit a letter of application, resume, transcripts and contact information for three references to: Human Resources, Bluefield State College, 219 Rock Street, Bluefield, WV 24701.  Position will be opened until filled.  

 

Coaching Position

Student Recruiter

Bluefield State College invites applications for Student Recruiter.  This position requires a bachelor’s degree with over one year of recruiting/marketing and retention experience preferably with students. The successful candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication, marketing/recruitment skills, interpersonal skills, and working knowledge of recruitment practices, computer literacy and a willingness to travel frequently.  The recruitment area will include, but is not limited to, BSC’s 28 county “metro area” of Virginia as well as some central WV counties and community colleges. 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the planning and implementation of the student recruitment program in our 28 county “metro area” of Virginia as well as some central WV counties and community colleges.  Interview prospective students, schedule and conduct campus tours.  Track and monitor prospective students. Recommend students for academic scholarships. Serve as a liaison between the institution and the high school guidance counselors/transfer counselors.  Maintain records of contacts from schools and work with them on admission policies, academic requirements and financial aid information.  Assist with pre-registration and other needs within the Admission Office. Admissions Assistant III

Bluefield State College invites applications for Admission Assistant III.  This position requires an Associate’s degree in Business or related field, with a computer science background and over one year of related experience.  The successful candidate must have working knowledge of computer programs, data entry and excellent oral and written communication skills.  Preference may be given to candidates with database, query reporters and letter population experience.  Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, program and implement the BANNER recruiting module, create and maintain recruiting material, assist with daily operations of the Admission Office and assist in the development and implementation of communication plans for new/transfer student orientation. This is a full-time, non-exempt classified, pay-grade 13 position with a starting salary of $23,837.00, funded by Title III/BRACE. Educational Outreach Counselor

Bluefield State College invites candidates for an Educational Outreach Counselor position with the Educational Opportunity Center, a TRIO funded grant program. This position requires that you recruit and advise at least 500 eligible participants per program year who are interested in enrolling in GED classes, vocational training and/or college programs.  Duties include recruitment, career counseling, assistance with higher education admission and financial aid paperwork and case management follow-up. Computer knowledge and ability to effectively utilize word processors, databases and spreadsheets are required. Additional responsibilities consist of group presentations, community resource networking, loan default resolution and educational outreach. Critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills are essential. A bachelor’s degree with two years experience working with a variety of socio-economic ethnic groups and community-based programs is required. A master’s degree in counseling and experience in higher education, particularly admissions and financial aid, are strongly preferred.
