Circulation Policies

Bluefield State College and New River Community and Technical College are state institutions with collections and services open to all residents of the state. As members of the Mountain Library Network, we also cooperate with Concord University and many public libraries.

Bluefield Campus:

Students should present a validated ID card and driver's license at the circulation desk to receive a library card. Staff and faculty can obtain a library card from the circulation desk with a valid driver's license.

Greenbrier Community College Center

GCCC students report to the library to have their school ID's made. They will receive library cards at the same time. Staff and faculty can obtain a library card from the circulation desk.

Cards are valid at all campuses of Bluefield State College, New River Community and Technical College, and public libraries in 17 counties.

Bluefield State-Concord-GVC Delivery Service

Bluefield State College and Concord University share a history of cooperation and extend to their student and community users joint checkout privileges. Bluefield State students are welcome to visit the Concord library in Athens, West Virginia.

A visit to the Athens campus is not necessary for access to Concord books and journals, though, since the two libraries provide document delivery to their users. During the regular academic year, excluding breaks, deliveries are made daily to the Bluefield campus. BSC and CU books are delivered to NRC&TC's GVC campus twice a week. An electronic document delivery service is also available for periodical articles. Books are provided free of charge to the student, but there can be a photocopy charge of $.10 a page for magazine articles. Users are limited to three requests per day. Forms are available at the circulation desk to request items from Concord. Please see a library staff person if you have any questions about this service.

If any desired materials are not available through the Mountain Library Network catalog, students should consider using Interlibrary Loan to obtain items.

Community Borrowers

Upon adequate identification, cards are issued to community residents over the age of 14. Cards can be issued to those under 14 whose parents are also registered in the MLN network.

The use of the BSC library card implies acceptance of library rules and regulations. Borrower cards from any Mountain Library Network library are subject to the same rules and regulations as BSC Community Borrower cards.

Community borrowers are limited to a check-out of three items at once from the Bluefield State College library.
