Bluefield State College's Financial Aid office has its own web page, with special information about local scholarships.

FinAid, the Financial Aid Information Page, "provides a free, comprehensive, independent, and objective guide to student financial aid. It was created by Mark Kantrowitz, author of The Prentice Hall Guide to Scholarships and Fellowships for Math and Science Students." It is sponsored by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).

This is a very large web site. Try the financial aid searches, then check to see whether any of the special categories apply to your situation.

FastWEB! is the Financial Aid Search through the Web. Students fill out a series of questionnaires, and receive personalized information about scholarships and other financial aid opportunities. There are even listings of scholarships with on-line applications! This service will also send information about new scholarships that fit a student's profile.

The Scholarship Resource Network focuses on scholarships that are neither tied to specific colleges nor to financial need. The student fills out a profile form and receives information about possible scholarships.

The College Board web site includes a financial aid database called EXPAN. Once again, the student fills out a form and receives a list of matching funding sources.

Similar to the above, but includes college-specific scholarships. This site even includes online college admissions applications! The instructions are clear.

Again, the student fills out a profile; this site sends appropriate information via e-mail.

Kaplan, one of the largest test-preparation companies, also has a financial aid information site. Kaplan's concentrates on loan programs. This site also includes a money-management game, and a college simulation game.

Peterson's publishes lots of useful college guides. At this site, you can search a financial aid database and find out more about colleges..

If you'd prefer a book....

There are many good books about financial aid opportunities. Ask at the Reference Desk, and a librarian will be happy to assist you.
