Nursing Resources on the World Wide Web

The World Wide Web contains a great deal of information about health care and wellness. Some of the information is excellent, some is not. The following sites are presented by well-known, responsible organizations and appear to be trustworthy. Remember, the Internet should never be used as a substitute for qualified medical advice!

The American Nurses Association web site, called Nursing World, contains a great deal of information on legal, educational, and professional issues as well as the Online Journal of Issues in Nursing. It also has information on state nursing associations.

Health and Wellness Sites:

WebMD is a commercial, consumer-oriented health and wellness website. Includes a "Condition Center" which organizes general information, current studies, support groups and expert chats for a large number of illnesses and conditions.

Health On the Net is an international initiative to provide accurate medical information on the Internet. It also has a link to Medline. The Library section contains a few consumer articles and some highly technical medical conference papers.

HealthTouch Online has a drug information database that provides patient information for a wide variety of prescription and over-the-counter medications. The health information available at this site is consumer-oriented. Each article begins with the source of the information included, which helps the reader determine how trustworthy the information is likely to be.
