Mission Statement for the Division of Student Affairs
The mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to support BSC's purpose of making education possible by enriching the minds and lives of its students. The division promotes the intellectual, cultural, personal, and social development of students while enhancing their physical and mental well-being. Student Affairs accomplishes this mission by:
Preparing students to be informed and active citizens within our society.
Providing programs and services that support students as they clarify their personal values, develop personal identity, build sound interpersonal relationships, explore career directions, and pursue academic goals.
Provide assistance and services to promote diversity, cultural richness, and full membership of all students within the college community.
Attending to students who have particular needs related to factors such as minority status, disability, health, financial resources, or nontraditional status.
Supporting a college environment that is safe and promotes students' intellectual inquiry and responsible decision-making.
Promoting leadership by training and supervising students who conduct activities on behalf of the division.
Promoting good Student Life and housing.
Mission Statement for Departments of the Division of Student Affairs
All departments within the Division of Student Affairs collaborate in the implementation of the mission. The following departmental descriptions provide an overview of their contributions to the educational mission:
Department of Student Health
The Department of Student Health provides physical and mental health care, education, and health promotion for students in support of their college experience. All encounters between students and staff are regarded as opportunities to influence students' health attitudes and practices. The department's academic activities include support for the education of future health care providers, and the training and supervision of students as health educators. As a consultant to the athletic department and others regarding students' individual and public health issues, the department provides institutional leadership and student advocacy.
