Do I need to schedule a campus tour? How do I do that?

While campus tours aren’t required, they’re the best way to experience the school culture, get questions answered, begin to chart your academic course and see the beauty of mountainous Bluefield. Arrange a Visit.

When do I need to submit my application by?

For all students except international students and those applying to the school of Nursing & Allied Health, applications for fall enrollment 2023 are due by July 25.

What high school requirements are necessary to apply to Nursing & Allied Health?

For the Accelerated LPN to RN program, you will need to have an overall high school or college GPA of 2.8 or higher (or a score of 45 on each of the GED exams) and also have completed one chemistry course with a C or better (either during high school or while enrolled at BSU or another accredited institution).

For the A.S. in Radiologic Technology program, you will need to have an overall high school GPA of 2.5 or higher (or a score of 40 on each of the individual GED tests, with an average score of 45). You’ll also need to have received a C or better in one unit of the following high school courses—biology, algebra, and chemistry or physics—and be eligible to enter MATH 109 by the fall semester of your first year (by having a minimum ACT math score of 19).

For the A.S. in Nursing program, you will need to have an overall high school GPA of 2.8 or better, or a score of 45 on each of the GED exams, as well as have received a C or better in one unit of high school biology, chemistry and algebra. You will also need to have received an ACT math score of 19 or higher, or be eligible to enter Math 101 by the fall semester of your first year in the program.

The other two programs offered by the Nursing & Allied Health school, B.S. in Nursing and B.S. in Imaging Science, both build on diploma or associate’s degrees rather than direct high school studies.

How does the PROMISE scholarship work?

Most questions about the West Virginia PROMISE scholarship (a merit-based program for WV residents, awarding as much as $5,000/year to high school graduates) are answered by the College Foundation of West Virginia, where you’ll find information about PROMISE deadlines and eligibility.

Specific questions about how the scholarship applies to your tuition can best be answered by the Office of Financial Aid (304-327-4020).

When will I know about the outcome of my financial aid application?

It could take anywhere from two to three weeks or longer to get a decision, depending on when you apply. West Virginia’s FAFSA deadline is April 15 (for aid the following year) and any applications received after that are handled on a rolling basis. Once you’ve applied, BSU will help process your FAFSA, send you a tracking letter requesting any missing documents, and then send you a decision letter. Receiving a decision is contingent upon Bluefield State receiving all of the needed documents.
